Hyaluronic acid is an acid mucopolysaccharide. In 1934, Meyer, an ophthalmologist at Columbia University, first isolated the substance from bovine vitreous. Hyaluronic acid, with its unique molecular structure and physical and chemical properties, has shown many important physiological functions in vivo, such as lubricating joints, regulating the permeability of vascular walls, regulating protein, water and electrolyte diffusion and operation, and promoting wound healing.
